Frequently Asked Questions

Love in Action – Fall 2026 Self-Defense 6-week Series

What do I wear?

The goal is that you are comfortable and able to move with ease.  Although we will be moving, bring an extra layer for times you may feel cool. You will have the option to practice in shoes or barefoot. You can wear jewelry and when we are doing interactive practice, will ask it be removed.

How large are the classes?

Typically classes can range from 10-20 students

What do I bring to class?

The goal is that your basic needs are met:

  • Food: we will provide some snacks – feel free to bring something to share.
  • Drink: bring a water bottle and anything non-alcoholic drink
  • Self-Care: anything you might want from home to support your nervous system regulation e.g. tincture, sour candy, favorite…

What are your masking policies?

We are masking optional indoors and currently ask that folks be vaccinated and stay home if they are not feeling well that day.

How much should I pay on the sliding scale?

We believe in making self-defense as accessible as possible and we also want to make sure the program is resourced. Please pay at the highest level possible and reach out to us if the sliding scale is inaccessible before the first day of class. For guidance see: https://www.wortsandcunning.com/blog/sliding-scale

What happens if I miss a session?

The goal is to be at all classes to build and maintain community and we understand there may be an unpreventable need for an absence.  We ask you to inform one of the instructors and make a plan to receive relevant information helpful to your re-integration into the next session.  Attendance at the first session is mandatory.
